Cookie Policy
Last updated: 1 January 2025
This Cookie Policy explains how The Design Dexter (“we”, “us”, “our”) uses cookies and similar local storage technologies on thedesigndexter.com. It complements our Privacy Policy.
By clicking “Accept Cookies” on our cookie banner, you consent to the use of optional cookies as described in this policy. If you click “Decline”, only strictly necessary cookies will be used and your choice will be stored in your browser’s localStorage.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites function correctly, to improve performance, and to provide information to website owners. Similar technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage are browser-based storage mechanisms that serve a comparable purpose without using traditional HTTP cookies.
Cookies can be classified by:
- Duration: Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain for a set period or until deleted.
- Origin: First-party cookies are set by our website. Third-party cookies are set by other domains (such as payment processors or analytics services).
- Purpose: Strictly necessary, functional, analytics, or advertising.
2. Cookies and Storage We Use
2.1 Strictly Necessary (Always Active)
These cookies are essential for the website to function. They cannot be disabled. They do not store any personally identifiable information.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
tdx_lang |
Session cookie | Stores your selected language preference (English or Italian) so it persists across pages during your visit. | Session |
tdx_sess |
Session cookie | PHP session identifier used to maintain state during the checkout process (e.g., preserving your selected package and add-ons between pages). | Session |
tdx_cookie_consent |
localStorage | Stores your cookie consent decision (“accepted” or “declined”) so we do not show the cookie banner on every page view. | 12 months |
2.2 Functional (Optional)
These technologies improve the website experience but are not essential. They are only active if you have accepted cookies.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
tdx_theme |
localStorage | Remembers any display preferences set by the user (e.g., reduced-motion preference). | 12 months |
tdx_pkg_draft |
sessionStorage | Temporarily saves your in-progress custom package builder selections so they are not lost if you navigate away and return during the same browser session. | Session |
2.3 Third-Party Cookies (Stripe)
When you proceed to checkout, you are redirected to checkout.stripe.com, a domain operated by Stripe, Inc. Stripe may set its own cookies on your device for fraud prevention, security, and payment processing purposes. We have no control over Stripe’s cookies. For full details, see Stripe’s Cookies Policy.
We do not use any advertising, retargeting, social media pixel, or behavioural tracking cookies. We do not share cookie data with advertisers.
3. Why We Do Not Use Google Analytics (or Similar)
We deliberately chose not to integrate Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or similar third-party analytics platforms. This means we collect no behavioural data about your browsing habits beyond what is necessary to operate the website. Server-side access logs (IP address, pages visited, timestamps) are used solely for security and are deleted after 30 days.
4. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You have several options for managing cookies:
4.1 Cookie Banner
On your first visit to our website, a cookie banner is shown. You may click “Accept Cookies” to enable optional cookies, or “Decline” to restrict us to strictly necessary cookies only. Your choice is stored in localStorage for 12 months. You can reset this preference by clearing your browser’s localStorage.
4.2 Browser Settings
You can configure your browser to block all cookies, accept only first-party cookies, or alert you before a cookie is placed. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent parts of the website from functioning correctly. Instructions for common browsers:
- Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Apple Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
4.3 Do Not Track
We respect the Do Not Track (DNT) browser signal. If your browser sends a DNT signal, we will not load any optional analytics or functional cookies beyond the strictly necessary set, regardless of your cookie banner choice.
5. International Transfers
Stripe, which may set cookies on checkout.stripe.com, is based in the United States. Data transfers are covered by Stripe’s participation in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and their use of EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use or in applicable law. The date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised. We recommend checking this page periodically if you have concerns about how cookies are used.
